In these tough economic times, many nonprofits are seeing a decrease in funding and, in some cases, a reduction in the services they can provide.

So Community Thread is hosting the 4th Annual Spring Into Service Event on Saturday, May 5 to help paint, landscape, clean and work with children at nonprofits across Washington County and the St. Croix River Valley.

More than 300 volunteers are needed to complete service projects at a variety of local nonprofit organizations. Volunteer projects will include painting, landscaping, spring clean-up, gardening and much more. There will also be office projects available for those unable to do physical labor.

Where can you help?

Sites in Stillwater include ArtReach St. Croix, Community Thread, HOPE Adoption and Family Services, Arcola Mills, Hope House, Good Samaritan Society and the Stillwater Veteran’s Memorial.

Other service sites include BRIDGE for Youth with Disabilities in Hudson, Great River Greening in Woodbury, and Merrick, Inc. in Vadnais Heights.

Requests can be made to be placed at a particular site; otherwise event organizers will assign people where volunteers are most needed.

The Spring Into Service Event runs from 9 a.m. to noon, and all attendees are invited to a volunteer appreciation party with a free lunch at Community Thread immediately following the event.

The event is free and open to people of all ages and abilities. Registration is now open. Sign up by emailing elena@communitythreadmn.org or calling 651-439-7434.
