Bachmann on Petraeus Hearing: Americans Deserve to Know What Happened in Benghazi Attack

"Two months after the terrorist attacks in Benghazi with an Ambassador and three other Americans dead, we have little knowledge of what the President knew and what his actions were," Bachmann said. Americans "deserve answers.”

Minnesota’s Sixth District Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, released the following statement today regarding the Committee’s hearing with former CIA Director General David Petraeus.

“Today’s hearing with General Petraeus further underscores the need for a thorough investigation of what happened during the terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012. From beginning to end, the American people are still without knowledge of what happened on that tragic day. The hearings that we have held to this point have not produced answers to the questions that the victims’ families and the American people deserve to have answered.

“The various committees with proper oversight of these matters in Congress have yet to hear from the principal decision makers who responded to what occurred September 11 and 12 when American lives were placed in peril. National Security Advisor Tom Donilon, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, FBI Director Robert Mueller, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey, UN Ambassador Susan Rice, and their subordinates in their respective chains of command who carried out their directives all should testify before Congress so the American people get the answers they deserve. While DNI Chief Clapper and General Petraeus came before our committee, their respective remarks are only an introduction—certainly not rising to a full investigation—regarding the attacks that transpired in Benghazi.

“Three particular areas need further investigation. The first is the lack of security at the Benghazi mission prior to the September 11 attack. We now know there were numerous reports of a deteriorating situation with security in eastern Libya prior to the attack. With that knowledge, why were the repeated requests for additional security by the State Department employees at the Benghazi mission reportedly denied, leaving the protection of Ambassador Stevens placed primarily in the hands of local Libyan militia? We also need to address why UN Ambassador Rice was sent on Sunday television shows after the attack and stated that there was a “substantial security presence” with Ambassador Stevens when that was clearly not the case.

“The second line of investigation needs to be regarding the calls for security assistance from the American personnel in Libya to the Obama administration. Reports state that key decision makers knew almost immediately from cables, emails, and phone calls that Ambassador Stevens and other Americans were in peril at the Benghazi mission. Americans deserve to know why did it take 20 hours for the U.S. military to land at the Sigonella Air Base in Italy, and at what point was there a military presence on site securing the American mission and annex in Benghazi? The question needs to be answered why did it take the FBI until October 4 to get on the ground to secure the sovereign soil of the American compound. And why the delay in US access to the site of the deadly attacks, both at the mission and the annex, so much so that reports stated that CNN was able to secure Ambassador Steven’s personal diary. If CNN was able to obtain such a private document, what other sensitive documents went missing?

“Third, why did the White House consistently embrace the false narrative that the deadly attacks were a spontaneous event motivated by an anti-Islamic video? President Obama in his remarks before the United Nations on September 25 stated six times that the anti-Islamic video was the motivating factor behind the attack. Why did the President continue to give this false narrative on September 25 —two weeks after the attack—when our government clearly knew that the video was not the primary motivation for the attacks? Today, the Obama administration is trying to change their narrative and have it both ways on their story regarding the terrorist attack in Benghazi.

“These important questions and many additional ones have yet to be answered. Ultimately, President Obama is responsible for the actions of his national security team and it is incomprehensible that we have yet to hear what the President knew, when he knew it, and the specific orders he gave his team.

“Almost immediately after Osama bin Laden was killed the Obama administration starting releasing specific details, including some classified information, about the operation and a timeline of events. By contrast, two months after the terrorist attacks in Benghazi with an Ambassador and three other Americans dead, we have little knowledge of what the President knew and what his actions were. The victims’ families, the American people, and Congress deserve answers.”

Bachmann: You need to retire from office if you don't know what happened and how the information was disiminated and why the CIA/FBI/DOD agencies would want to collect information and follow people before coming out and calling the attack an act of TERRORISTS as opposed to an act of terror. When looking for an arsonist you look at the crowed gathered and listen to comments and follow people to discover the network. SO YOUR and some of YOUR Congress Members owe the American Public an explanation for the disclosure of information that interfeered with that investigation, and put the investigation at risk for Political Gain. What is your motive. Do you promote the making of insulting movies that border on pornography? Do you intend to frustrate the capture, trial and conviction or termination of the people who attacked the Counsel Post? Or are you just so obtuse that you can't understand plane simple English, and Investigative Tactics? If this is true, you should not be in Congress on the "Intelligence Committee". I hope you can't fund your next run for office, with other people's money. How does your District feel now that it has a Representative Paid for by out of district supporters?

The more I think about these baseless, spineless and disgusting attacks by Michele, the more I realize she does it just for attention and the money it helps her raise for her political campaigns.

Therefore, what we all need to do, is just start ignoring her. She has nothing important to say, and she deserves none of our time and attention.

It is a shame she is in Congress; but ignore her vicious and foolish rantings, we must.

While she's at it, why doesn't Michele rant about and demand an investigation of Outpost Keating, which was set up in 2006?

Why was a suicide outpost set up under the Bush admin? Why wasn't the president at that time aware of the extreme danger? Many men died there when they were ambushed by hundreds of insurgents and had no way out.

Yes we saw them. But, just because you see a car crash, does not mean you know who the driver was, what was the condition or motive of the driver, or the condition of the car. So friend you may need to investigate what you see. Following the attackers back to their "Safe Houses" and catching them with their "Friends" is much more effective operational tactic than just being livid about semantics. The nomenclature used by the CIA/FBI/DoD was and is purposeful, and I don't think the CIA/FBI/DoD are focused on helping President Obama's political career. Keep suggesting that and it may well come to be true as your claims are revolting to them.

The American people deserve an answer to this horrible murder of Americans. That they were placed in harms way because of the disregard of our federal government (no matter the party) is evident. Unfortunately, we have placed politics over America, just like in Vietnam and our dealings with the Middle East. Never have I been more disgusted with our government and their lack of patriotism. Protection denied? Call for help disregarded? God Bless or militarymen and women who still believe in the creed of "no one left behind". Navy SEALS who are trained to protect America were left to die on September 11,2012. Our sons and daughters are fighting for a country who cares more about politics than what these young men and women who are dying for " AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM". I am saddened by the way our country is being run. I am saddened when I look at my kids and have to lie about how politicians love our country. I love my God, my family, my country, and my guns. Come within distance of either and you are going to see one RED, WHITE AND BLUE blood American stand up.

Turkey, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Yeman, Malysia, have all helped arrest and kill some of the assailants involved in the Behghazi Attack. There are others still being located as the investigation and cooperation continues. The Countries mentioned view these terrorists as problems to their own civil society and are helping round them up after they return to their "Safe Houses". This round up sweeps up not only the Benghazi Attackers but their associates and supporters.

Mitch, what about all of the Americans that died looking for WDM's in Iraq. They deserve a answer too. Truth is most of us don't want to know what the CIA does, or how we get information, or what truly happens in our embassy's and how they work. You don't like the politics of all of this, well blame the GOP and people in congress like Bachmann for politicizing this.

http://www.propublica.org/blog/item/f.a.q.-on-u.s.-aid-to-egypt-where-does-the-money-go-who-decides-how-spent

Do I agree with the spending. No, I think we should stop all military contracts with Egypt. I think we should send commodities, not cash. We have flooded the region with weapons at the behest of the Weapons Manufacturers in the good Old USA. The majority of our "Aid" to Murbarak was spent on the weapons stock pile. Unfortunately those weapons were used to intimadate his own people and act as a mennising threat to others in the region. WHY did this start. Well, at some point in time the USA / Egypt / Israel signed a peace treatey and this was the payoff that was due for peace. It is odd to sell weapons for peace but that is much how things went down.

Aid had gone down, from 850 Million to 250 Million and some of the weapons orders have been cut as other economic needs are being recognized. The President of Egypt is a former member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Yes they are radicals. But then again so were the folks who tossed the Tea in the Boston Harbor.

So if we want Egypt to honor its past obligation of the Israel / Egypt / USA Peace treaty we must first hold their new President up to that same expectation, and honor our commitments with that being the expectation. When they prove otherwise the support no doubt would be removed. With consultation we are seeing that support changing from military materials to civil materials. This has to be negotiated in a respectful way. Note: Egypt has arrested 4 and 1 death of Behghazi Attackers. Note: Egypt has been controlling the Gaza Boarder better than under prior President. Note: Egypt has collaborated with Israel in attacks on terrorists along their boarder. Note: Egypt allowed Israel Air Force to use airspace en-route to blow up missile manufacturer. Note: Egypt is actively trying to stop weapons smuggling within and through its country.

In 1776, England thought we were rebels, and based some of their justification for treating us bad because some of us were not followers of the Church of England. Thank goodness the French came and helped us out, or we'd be speaking English with a funny accent.

The Members of the Muslim Brotherhood should be given the same opportunity for social and personal evolution as our founding fathers, sisters, and brothers were. Yes there will be a few like our KKK that never learn to be civil.

You would dare compare The Muslim Brotherhood to our founding fathers? This "moral equivalence" is one of the fatal flaws of the Left. In what way is The Muslim Brotherhood morally equivalent to our founding fathers and the rebellion that began the greatest nation on Earth?

Do you know anything about The Muslim Brotherhood? They are the root of all major terrorist organizations that function today. Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, etc. etc. They are all branched from The Muslim Brotherhood.

Terrorism has no moral boundaries. They make no distinction between the slaughter of innocents and combatants, no distinction between children, women, and men.

If you attempt to defend or justify the slaughter of children, what does that say about you?

Nick, you need to get your facts straight about the evolution of those organizations. Also, note that Egypt brokered the cease fire this week between Hamas and Israel:

Why should Bachmann read those statistics? Why do they matter? Yes, it looks like most of the deaths are on the Palestinian side, but why does that matter? The boundary between good and evil is determined by motives, actions, and methods, not numbers.

Israel has a military and fights to defend its citizens. Hamas has no military, but straps bombs to children. I didn't see any statistics in there about the number of women and children killed as Palestinian suicide bombers, or any statistics on the number of Palestinian suicide bombers at all. Why, I wonder.

Michelle Bachmann, although barely squeaking out a win for the third time, is becoming more irrelevant with every statement she makes. Because she has been proven to be more of a provocateur than a public servant, the party leaders are now distancing themselves from her...did you see her having any role at the RNC?

Even if she does have a valid point on occasion, her voice is no longer a concern or recognized as influential or even relevant. She is only taken seriously by those staunch supporters who believe some of the ridiculous lies she tells. She is over, even though she still has a seat at the table.

Susan is correct. Bachmann is last year's news. Despite out-spending her opponent 12-1, Bachmann barely kept her job in a +10 Republican indexed district. Even her own had to hold their noses to vote for her.

What's more, her amendment banning same sex marriage in Minnesota went down to defeat.

She only hurts her party now. She's on the wrong side of the issues and out of touch with the political will of the people. When your campaign slogan is a desperate "I'm Here" (to counter the fact that she's not "all there") you are in damage control mode. She is no longer a leader, just a footnote.

Patch only helps the Democrats by serving as a mouthpiece for her continuing rants.

I hope that she does not get so much out of district funding for her next election in 2 years. What we need to know, is how Congress will fund added security for all our Foreign Placed Employees of the State Department and Peace Corps and other Americans working for the Government in Foreign Posts. What we need to know is what went wrong, how to fix it, fix it, and it isn't about who said what when. There is investigative strategist not to run off at the mouth that you suspect this or that group while you are tracking them back to their "safe houses", get the local governments to help arrest, kill or put them on trial. The GOP running off at the mouth early on in the investigation may have caused harm to the resolution of the matter and complicated relations and put additional lives at risk.

Obama is in fact in charge of a regime. A corrupt crew that considers lying to the American people its prerogative. After all, they are saving us from ourselves. Benghazi is another example of their attitude - our role is to accept their decisions, not to question them. While I don't always agree with Ms. Bachmann, I value her role as one of the dwindling number of voices willing to challenge the Regime and the sheep who believe that shutting the opposition up is the acceptable alternative when the facts are not on your side.

Note: The revising of Legal System in Libya needs to be done. In some legal systems to officially arrest some one is equal to a conviction and the arrested person has to prove they are innocent. The Spanish and French systems of law are like this, and this delays arrests for a long time in those countries. This does not mean there will not be justice. Note, the Demonstrations for support of the USA, the ousting of militias, and the military actions in Libya surrounding a militia in the hills. There is a big picture here. Holding back on information is not a lie there is a strategic as in CIA/Military or Foreign Relations reasons to Classify Information and not release it. You are smoking dried Bovine Fecal Matter if you can't understand this. This is not corruption this is doing their job. Ms. Bachmann can ask questions all she wants. The US has diplomatic (embassy) missions to many countries, and like the US (9/11, Oklahoma City), many experience domestic and foreign terrorist activity within their borders. This could have happened in Spain, Turkey, Israel, Indonesia or any other country where the United States has a diplomatic mission and there is terrorist activity. In all these countries the US strives to keep their government workers safe.

Who made the decisions to do this or that during the actual attack. Who were the advisers in the room.

Why did Rice address an International event? Well, at the time there were multiple protests going on around the world. People were being killed as the other Embassys were being protected from protesters. The events in Benghazi were not issolated even if they were different. We would expect the President and the Secretary of State would be busy with other matters. They should not be running around NY to appear on the Morning Shows. Think of the comments that would bring. President Obama reacted properly, as did Secretary Clinton. Yes we need to do better but all this nonsense the GOP is entertaining themselves with has nothing to do with doing better or capturing the Terrorists/Attackers.

The GOP will find that their friends in the FBI/CIA/DoD will not be so friendly if they persist in suggesting their decisions were based on political support for President Obama, and the reality of who ordered what or didn't order what is solidly placed on their shoulders. The GOP will push away this traditionally supportive voter base as they pursue their exposure of the Generals, CIA , FBI, directors and management that is being held up for close inspection. Their loose lips will or may just sink their own ships so to speak.

I assume the point of posting that was to illustrate that it is perfectly acceptable to lob thousands of rockets into a country the size of New Jersey, just as long as you only kill a few people. It is the military action in response to those rocket attacks on civilians that is unacceptable.

Why Good

Nick:
What that article points out is that the country the size of New Jersey has a strangle hold on the people of Gaza, much like the Warsaw Poland Getto the Natzi's trapped them into during WWII. It is not acceptable to lob rockets into Israel, but it is understandable that there would be resistance and anger directed at a much larger and powerful country that has you boxed in. No crossing boarders, or going fishing, and even farming is restricted by the Israelis. The diversion of water, and economic self sufficiency and the continued land grabs by Israel needs to be addressed by the world. The world created this problem and we should not let the Israeli "Final Solution" of Palestinian Genocide go forward all be it at a slow pace. Both sides are wrong.

You lose all credibility the second you compare the Jewish people to Nazis.

Israel is not wrong and they are not engaging in "land grabs". Until the Jews came back to the area formerly known as the British Mandate of Palestine, most of it was either a desolate desert or swampland. While building Tel Aviv, many Israelis died of malaria because they were building in a wilderness swamp. It was not occupied. A huge aquifer was discovered after Israel was founded for the 3rd time, making the desert habitable and farmable, because the aquifer is being pumped for irrigation. The Palestinians never did that. They didn't occupy the land because it was not habitable at the time.

Most of the refugees created by the founding of Israel had to move less than 30 miles and still lived among people of the same language, culture and religion. Approximately 750,000 refugees were created, and most of them became refugees voluntarily. They could have lived under Israeli governance. In fact, the freest, most affluent Palestinians that exist are those who live under Israeli governance, not Hamas or Fatah.

The West Bank belonged to Jordan after the Brits gave it up. They didn't want it and didn't fight for it.

If you think that 750,000 is a lot of refugees, one other country was created in 1948 that no one ever mentions as not having the right to exist. Pakistan. Pakistan was carved out of India the same year, and created 20 times the number of refugees, and those refugees had to move hundreds of miles and live in a foreign land, not 30 miles. Why does Pakistan never have to justify its existence?

Why do you think Israel boxed Gaza in in 2007? Maybe because of the rocket attacks? After Bush pressured Israel to give up Gaza in 2004 and forcibly remove Israeli citizens from their homes the Palestinian extremists took it over and now are using it as a base from which to launch attacks. Israel had to stop weapons from getting into Gaza.

Prior to 2004, Israelis and Palestinians lived together in Gaza and that wasn't good enough, so there were rocket attacks and suicide bombings. In 2004, Israel gave up Gaza, the attacks continued. In 2007 Israel clamps Gaza shut, the attacks continued. Now it is the clamping shut that caused the attacks? What?!

There are over 200 countries on Earth, all of which displaced people when they were founded, and in most of those, the displacees were displacers at one time. Why is that the one Jewish State in the world, a tiny country the size of New Jersey, is the only country that constantly has to justify its existence and give up land?

Maybe because it's Jewish? Naah, that couldn't be it.

If you think Israel is wrong and does not have exclusive right to that land, you should know that the only independent countries that have existed there are Israel, Israel, and now Israel again. If the land doesn't belong to Israel, who exactly does it belong to?

After the second Israel was destroyed in 70 AD by the Romans, it was occupied by the Roman Empire, then the Ottoman Empire, then the British Empire, then parts of Egypt and Jordan, now Israel is back in its homeland. It is THEIR homeland. Not the Palestinians. That identity never existed as a national identity until Israel came home, made the desert flourish, and built cities where swamps were. Now the Arabs want it just because the Jews are there. Where were they between 70 AD and 1948?

Before you think that the Palestinians are some kind of victim group, remember this: The Jews have suffered more than any other people in history. They have suffered three major captivities, a dozen occupations, genocide, being expelled from country after country, all culminating in the Holocaust. Now they are finally back in their homeland and just want to be left in peace.

If the Palestinians want peace, they will have it. If they don't, we will continue to see what we see today.

Before there was the first Jewish Person, there was an Egypt, and a Iraq and Turkish Empire that ruled the areas now under dispute. Your time line is one of mere convenience as it disregards ancestral claims prior to the first Jewish Male, Abraham, who was born not in Israel, but Iraq, near the Euphrates and Tigress Rivers. Do you know why Abraham's Tribe left modern day IRAQ? Do you know why half of the Jews went into Egypt and became slaves? Do you know about the Jewish Mafia, or Jewish International Crime? Do you know about the Jewish Terrorists oh You'd call them the Jewish Underground of WWII. Do you know the conditions under the Jewish State of Israel restrict the residents and citizens of Gaza and the West Bank live? Do you not know that the "Original Jew was of Iran, and the Original Christian a Jew, and oh how about the fact there is not a Jewish Race, any more than there is an American Race. Do you know that the Jewish people kicked Palestinians out of their homes, forced relocation, and do not have open land markets, and even if your a Citizen of Israel if your not Jewish your not quite a whole person under their law. As far as swamps being re-claimed. You need to study geography and understand that IF they converted swamp land they befouled the very environment that provides fish for the Mediterranean.

All I'm reading here are a lot of "justifications" for Antisemitism. Apparently all of this is justification for Islamic terrorism being inflicted day and night on the Jewish people? I just don't see it.

There are several conditions that must be met for a Palestinian State to be acceptable. They are:

1. Acceptance of Israel's right to exist.
2. Denouncement of terrorism and violence against civilians in any form.
3. Banning of Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah, and any other terrorist organization from any role in the Palestinian State.
4. The Palestinian leadership must stop being patsies for Iran and Syria.
5. The Palestinian leadership must work for the peace and prosperity of the Palestinian people.
6. The Palestinian leadership must stop working to keep their own people in destitution and poverty, which they do in order to blame Israel for their people's condition.

A Palestinian State is impossible unless these conditions are met. To have one without these conditions will result in a rogue state whose solitary goal is the complete destruction of Israel and a second Holocaust.
