Bolander and Sons Awarded Load-Testing Work for St. Croix River Crossing Project

MnDOT has awarded the load-testing contract for the St. Croix River Crossing Project to Carl Bolander and Sons.
Load testing helps provide bridge designers with critical information on soil conditions under the river, which will help determine the final designs of the St. Croix River Crossing Project and reduce risks during construction.
Of the four bids for the load-testing project, Carl Bolander and Sons came in with the low bid of $3.484 million, according to this report by Finance and Commerce. The other three bids were Lunda Construction at $3.6465 million, Walsh Construction at $3.8 million and Edward Kraemer & Sons at $4.152 million.
MnDOT began taking RFPs for the bridge design and peer review last month. Those contracts will be awarded by mid- to late-May.
MnDOT estimated the cost of the load-testing project to be about $3 million.
The total cost of the project is estimated between $571 million to $676 million.
The load testing is set to begin the third week of May and continue through the summer months.
