Coalition for the St. Croix River Crossing Receives Public Policy Achievement Award

The Coalition for the St. Croix River Crossing was chosen for the achievement by an independent panel because plans to replace the Stillwater Lift Bridge have been attempted for decades, but the Coalition got results in about one year.

The Coalition for the St. Croix River Crossing has been recognized by Politics in Minnesota and the Capitol Report as a 2012 Leader in Public Policy Achievement in Transportation.

“The independent panel chose the Coalition because plans to replace the Stillwater Lift Bridge have been attempted for decades,” said Event Coordinator Courtney Freng. “The Coalition for the St. Croix River Crossing was able to get results in about a year, with widespread support from both the general public and politicians from both sides of the aisle. Their support was strong in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the business and labor communities.”

Politics in Minnesota and the St. Paul Legal Ledger Capitol Report recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions toward Minnesota’s political, public policy or civic environment during the state’s current fiscal year or 2012 legislative session.

Nominations were received from people who followed the 2012 Legislative session, a news release states. A bi-partisan panel then read through the nominations and decided on the top candidates for the award.

“The honorees reflect a wide range of interests, political thought and years of experience at the Capitol,” Steven Jahn, vice president and publisher of Finance & Commerce, Inc., stated in a news release. “This was our third year giving the Leaders in Public Policy Awards, with many nominations from new sources.”

A program honoring winners will be held Tuesday, July 10, from 4-7 p.m. at the St. Paul Hotel.

Here’s a full list of those recognized as 2012 Leaders in Public Policy:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: Rep. Tom Rukavina

And the crossing isn't even over a river.

Some might call this polishing a terd, use imagination a bit.

How ignorant.

Jim, you've been warned time and time again to move the conversation forward. What you are doing is spam. One more mention of Lake St. Croix in these posts and you will be labeled as a spammer. Please stop.

Enough, Jim. Please come up with a different argument. And I'm not exactly sure what a "terd" is:)

Fact of the matter is the creators of these articles about crossing the Saint Croix River need to come up with a different headline.

It's NOT a river, it's Lake Saint Croix. When someone drowned in Lake Pepin they didn't say the Mississippi River, did they?

'Fact of the matter is the creators of these articles about crossing the Saint Croix River need to come up with a different headline."

Jim, read the headline again: "Coalition for the St. Croix River Crossing Receives Public Policy Achievement Award"

The article is not about crossing the St. Croix River, it's about the "Coalition for the St. Croix River Crossing". It's about the Coalition Jim, not about a river, a crossing, or a lake.

If you want to chastise the editor or writer for the correctness of their headline, then maybe you should make sure to first read and understand that headline.

Why is this such a difficult issue?

The crossing is across a LAKE not a river.

Why is everyone so defensive?

Shawn you can call me any name you wish as long as you accept the body of water the proposed bridge is crossing is a LAKE!

How is Lake Saint Croix different than Lake Pepin?

You sure make it difficult to understand your "logic".

Iv'e been called worse names than Spammer, go for it.

Be carefull to avoid censorship.

The true difficulty here is that Jim is unable, unwilling, or unraveling to not see what is so clear to everyone else...sign off Jim, your indignation is your undoing.

Big business and labor unions should really receive the award. Lake, river, who cares. We still get to pay for it...

So, Jim - Is what you're saying, that if it's actually a LAKE, then we didn't even need to bother with Congressional approval to waive the Wild and Scenic River's act, since it didn't apply?!? Why didn't anyone else think of that! <<sarcasm>>

Even limnologists disagree over Lake Pepin... Although the majority call it a reserviour. It's just a name. Like the city called "Lake Elmo." It's still a city.

You say tomato, I say tomato. Oh, wait, that doesn't make much sense when you read it. ;-)

I hope this panel will also have the fortitude to present the Coalition with the Boondoggle of the Decade award later on. What a huge mistake, building this monstrosity. If not the Bridge to Nowhere, it'll be the Bridge to Not Much and will have transformed the area. Trucks will love speeding down the upgraded S.H. 36 and zooming across the new bridge. Ear plugs anyone?

Personally, I LOVE it when cars are backed up in downtown Stillwater in every direction, idling, spewing fumes. It's just great. And it happens TWICE a day! Awesome!

I'm more interested in finding out when the city of Stillwater will be receiving the Worst Use of Tiff Funds Award and the much ballyhooed Economic Development For Other States Award.
