Think about how you feel on Christmas morning, waiting excitedly to open the presents under the tree. What if there were no presents, and no tree?
Unfortunately, this is the case for many families in the St. Croix Valley, and even right in the Stillwater school district.
The economy has greatly impacted many families, making the holidays a difficult time financially.
The good news is that you can help!
Community Thread’s Holiday Bureau program provides gifts and a holiday meal for local low-income families, seniors and adults with disabilities.
Sponsors are needed to provide $25 in gifts for each member of their sponsored family as well as the makings for a holiday meal.
Sponsors will receive a wish list and be able to personally shop for gifts for their sponsored family.
A 2011 recipient said, “Our children had an amazing Christmas thanks to our sponsors! We wouldn’t have had anything under the tree this year if it weren’t for the help from the community.”
The sponsor form can be downloaded from www.communitythreadmn.org, or can be mailed by request.
Sponsor forms are due by Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.
The Holiday Bureau is also accepting financial donations as well as toy and gift donations.
Most needed items currently are gift cards, toys and clothes for babies, arts and craft supplies, board games for older kids, gifts for teens, and warm weather clothes.
Items can be dropped off at 2300 Orleans St. West Stillwater, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
