There were several black bear sightings in the Pawnee Avenue Court area in Stillwater Township last month.
According to the Stillwater Township Public Safety Blotter:
April 14: A black bear was sighted sitting in front of a garage door in the 9600 block of Pawnee Ave Court.
On April 17: A resident in the 10800 block of Pawnee Avenue watched a black bear take down his bird feeder at 8:30 p.m. The bear appeared to be about 200 pounds.
On April 18: The bear took down another bird feeder during the evening in the 11100 block of Penfield Avenue.
On April 18: A resident in the 10200 block of Perkins Avenue saw the bear in her yard at 8:20 p.m.
On April 19: Another resident reported their bird feeder was knocked over during the night in the 10600 block of Norell Avenue.On April 27: A black bear was sighted in a tree in the 10400 block of Arcola Trail at 9:40 p.m.

Given the proximity of these sightings, we are likely seeing the same bear. Don't stand by and watch the bear take down your feeders. He will run off if you yell at him and make some loud noise from the safe place you are watching from. Might have to do this a few times as he tested to see if we really meant no, but eventually ran off into the woods. Also, if the bear has been in your yard, bring your bird feeders into your garage at night before it gets dark rather than leaving the buffet out all night for him to feast on while you sleep. He is more likely to move on if he's not finding an easy meal. I will post some pictures from our two bear visits a bit later.
