Lives Remembered: Adam Gott

Adam Gott passed away Saturday, June 30.

Stillwater resident and lacrosse star Adam Gott died last weekend in a crash.

Gott,19, was a student at St. John's University. He graduated from Hill-Murray High School, and before that he attended St. Croix Catholic School.

He was an attackman for the Johnnies lacrosse team.

A wake will be held at St. Michael's Church from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 8. Funeral and mass will be Monday, July 9 at St. Michael's. Mass begins at 10:30 a.m.; burial will follow.

"Adam was an amazing young man and it was our honor to have been a part of his life,” Hill-Murray coach Greg Visich said in a statement. “We will miss his quick wit, contagious smile and generous heart. Our family is better for having known him and we will forever be missing a piece of our heart."

Gott's sudden death also saddened his college coach and teammates.

Here’s a statement from Gott’s college lacrosse coach, Derek Daehn:

"This will shake our community, but we must come together to do whatever we can to support both Adam's family and friends. Adam was a great member of and influence on our program. He had a sense of confidence and worked hard. He pushed for playing time as a freshman and had a great future ahead of him. I saw him on Thursday playing for his summer league team, and I am so grateful to have had recent contact with him and see him doing something that he loved."

Officers and Captains of the St. John’s lacrosse team, Jake Helmer and Michael King, released this statement:

"Adam was a fantastic athlete and a natural scorer, with perhaps the highest career shooting percentage SJU has ever seen. Off the field, Adam was an even greater person. His smile and fun-loving attitude brought happiness to those he encountered and made his friendship contagious. Our hearts go out to his family and friends who are devastated by this tragedy. This Johnnie lacrosse season will be dedicated to Adam, beginning with the retirement of the #2. He will be missed immensely.”

Please feel free to share your memories of Adam and leave your well-wishes for his friends and family in the comment section below.

I've never met Adam, but I really wish I had. He sounds like a loving and caring friend, an irreplacable teammate, and an all-around true Johnnie. He will always be a part of the CSB/SJU community because that is something you will never lose. All my prayers are with his friends and family.

I didn't know him too well, but every time I ever happened to interact with Adam he was very kind. He had the sweetness of someone you knew was just good inside. I know he touched many lives and he will be missed. My prayers fo out to his friends and family.

As a parent my heart felt prayers go out to your family. I am a parent of a UST freshman lacrosse player and know your son was a very good player but sounds like he was even a better person. I pray over time you will be able to find peace and comfort. Again , all our thoughts and prayers to your family the SJU lacrosse community. UST DAD

I didn't know Adam or his family but they are part of our parish. I know prayers from the parish of St. Michaels will continue and we will be thinking and praying for the family forever. We have a great parish that will offer continued support and prayer.
