Man Finds Missing ‘Goodwill Gun’
A Wisconsin man thought he had accidentally donated it to the Woodbury or Hudson, Wis., Goodwill.
The case of the missing “Goodwill gun” has been solved.
Bryan Kendall, the River Falls, Wis., man who told authorities he believed he accidentally donated a loaded pistol to either the Woodbury or Hudson, Wis., Goodwill late last month said his friend found the weapon in a hunting case.
“It was a relief,” he told Woodbury Patch. “You go from one extreme—pure panic—to another.”

Kendall said his friend found the .22-calliber Smith & Wesson late Wednesday night. The two went deer hunting together last fall.
“He probably forgot that he had it,” Kendall said.
Kendall said his friend had looked for the gun when it was initially reported missing, but it wasn’t found until Wednesday.
After getting a text message from his friend about the gun, Kendall left messages with law enforcement officials in Woodbury and Wisconsin, and he also told Goodwill the weapon had been located.
“I’ve got nothing but good things to say about all these organizations,” Kendall said.
In the end, Kendall said he was glad he came forward about the missing firearm.
“You can’t just be quiet about it,” he said.

I'm glad it was found. Do I understand this correctly in that he didn't know where the gun was since last fall?

That's the way it sounded. Like he just thought it was in his dresser the whole time.

Is it legal to use a pistol for deer hunting? Or does he have a conceal and carry permit?

I really don't know, but I don't think you'd want to. I just figured it was brought along for target shooting or something.

Susan- MN has a carry law, no such thing as a conceal law in MN. You can carry your firearm concealed or holstered in plain sight.
See below for other info:
When is a permit to carry not required?
A permit to carry is not required of a person: (Minnesota Statute 624.714 Subd. 9)
•To keep or carry about the person's place of business, dwelling house, premises or on land possessed by the person a pistol; To carry a pistol from a place of purchase to the person's dwelling house or place of business, or from the person's dwelling house or place of business to or from a place where repairing is done, to have the pistol repaired;
•To carry a pistol between the person's dwelling house and place of business;
•To carry a pistol in the woods or fields or upon the waters of this state for the purpose of hunting or of target shooting in a safe area;
•To transport a pistol in a motor vehicle, snowmobile or boat if the pistol is unloaded, contained in a closed and fastened case, gun box, or securely tied package.

Great news! I give the owner credit for coming forward when he thought he'd donated the gun to Goodwill. He took the risk of maybe getting into trouble or being embarrassed because he was concerned for the safety of others. I am hoping he will make sure he knows where his guns are at all times in the future.

I've got a feeling he won't soon forget where his guns are.

Thomas: Your Minnesota permit to carry is good in Wisconsin? Or is your wisconsin permit to carry good in Minnesota. Or is this a different CC state permit all together?
