Micky Cook Will Not Seek Re-election to the Stillwater City Council
Ward 2 City Council Member Micky Cook said she has decided not to run for re-election. “Becoming involved as a city council member has been an invaluable education,” she said. “I think it’s time someone else should take a crack at it.”
Stillwater City Council Member Micky Cook announced today that she will not run for re-election in November.
“It has not been an easy decision,” Cook said Monday. “I’ve been on the fence about running for re-election, but decided not to for personal reasons. It really comes down to being more intentional about how I spend my time.”
Cook represented Ward 2, which includes the North Hill, part of downtown and the northeast portion of Stillwater.
“Becoming involved as a city council member has been an invaluable education,” Cook said. “I’ve put in my four years and I think it’s time someone else should take a crack at it.”
Since being elected in 2008, Cook said she tried her best to serve the people, be fiscally responsible and believes she is going out on a high note.
“There have been some things that were contentious,” Cook said, “but that comes with the territory and has not played a role in my decision not to seek re-election.”
Looking back, Cook said it’s the simple, quality-of-life issues she’s most proud to be a part of as a council member.
“It’s getting a light replaced that had been out for several years so an elderly gentleman felt comfortable walking through his neighborhood park,” Cook said. “That seems so simple, but it really helped someone out.”
Cook said she’s also proud to be a part of putting the social host and problem property ordinances in place, engaging the public in the civic process and being a member of the special events task force that will hopefully shape how the city looks at future events.
Cook also stands by her attempts to make city government “an open and transparent process.”
“There’s no doubt that I will miss it,” Cook said. “It’s been quite the experience.”
The filing period for elected positions that hold primaries ends Tuesday at 5 p.m. So far, no one has filed for the Ward 2 council seat.

I've got 20 bucks that says Harycki has already been lobbying any friend he can find (a tall task to be sure) to run for that spot so he can continue to run roughshod over that cast of bootlickers aleady on the council. After his good friend and wing nut Todd Remely was defeated he convinced the spineless Jim Roush to run and we have certainly all been the worse for that. Somebody please run in Ward 2 or you can bet Harycki will find another bobo to throw his or her name in to run unopposed.

The interesting thing is when Harycki ran for Mayor his main platform was to break up the "good ol boy network" that had been running Stillwater into the ground for years. Interesting thing is he's become part of what he wanted to eliminate, and in the process has made some really poor judgmental decisions.
It's funny how people move into Stillwater and without even taking the time to understand, the history, the culture, and what the lifelong residents want, decide they need to "fix" the problems that most people don't even consider problems.
Randy, don't worry about Roush, it he has the guts to run again he'll not win, everyone knows he's Harycki's puppet. Besides he only won because he created a political divide in his ward over some stupid sidewalk thing.

@D. Knutson. I'm about to post a story right now about filings. So far Roush will be running unopposed.

Roush won because he went door knocking and Milbrandt got lazy. I can only hope those ward's can produce people of integrity to run against Harcyki and his lackeys because this doesn't just impact those wards but the future of this wonderful city that can only survive so much of Harcyki's corruption.

Harycki makes the previous good ole boys look like children in kindergarten compared to his reign of comedy and disgust. I doubt there is a woman in ANY ward that would choose to sit next to him on Tuesday nights and put up with his condescending, egotistical, rude, bullying attitude. I can't even watch his performances on television! Micky Cook will be greatly missed but I am happy for her that she won't have to put up with Harycki's behavior any longer.

Mr. Marsh, instead of complaining about how the city council has let you down. Why don't you get off your @$$, away from your computer, and be the change you want to see? What good is whining going to get you? What do you have to lose besides the anger you have?

Randy Marsh (not his real name) can't get off his @$$ because he is almost house ridden due to years of drinking and taking massive amounts of pain killer and the fact that he (being at least 3 bloggers against anything the Mayor does) lives in a trailer in Texas. He no longer has a house in Stillwater because he stuck the bank and us taxpayers when he walked away after draining all the cash out of the house. He is angry because he is no longer able to sponge off of the trust and good will of others and feels entitled to something. He has burned too many bridges here! Yes, he'd never run for office...no ambition...no solutions...just unfounded accusations and time to blog!

Nate, how about we share my comments on any issue of your choosing and we can use this rant and present it to a doctor or qualified medical or psychological professional and see who sounds like they have been ravaged by "years of drinking and taking massive amounts of pain killer." I guess you must know a different Randy Marsh who has had some issues. I hope things get better for him. I deal with facts while you choose to attack the messenger, which only shows that you have no defense for Harycki or his bobos, despite not disputing anything that I have said. Fire away, but the truth is on my side.

Going back through Nate's comments, I would say that his is the pseudonym....my guess is that his last name rhymes with Marycki.

I'm not agry, but seem to have struck a nerve based on your divisive comments. I wish I lived in Ward 2 so I could be that agent of change. By the way, feel free to challenge any of the facts laid out above. The sad truth is that Harycki and the voters who have allowed him to continue his reign of impropriety are not being well served by the current good old boys club that exists under his watch.

Thank you, Micky. You have stood strong against a group that seems to feel it their right to spend our hard earned tax dollars on frivolous and unnecessary expenditures. You will be missed, and I truly hope we can find another fiscally responsible individual that wishes to put this city first, and ignore the urge to put their legacy ahead of the needs of the citizenry.
