The main site work for the Pedestrian Plaza in downtown Stillwater is still expected to be complete by July 1.

But the installation of new crosswalks on Main Street will be delayed until after the Fourth of July.

At the request of Minnesota DNR and David Paradeau—the owner of the former Minnesota Zephyr—work to install the new crosswalks on Main Street will be delayed until after the Fourth of July to allow the Minnesota Zephyr train to be moved without experiencing conflicts with any potential roadwork on Main Street.

Minor work in the east parking lane of Main Street will occur in the next week or two in order to connect the restroom to public water and sanitary sewer mains.

That's the nice thing about rail, it's so easy to relocate.

I'm interested in hearing more about the move. Where is it going? When is it going? Might be fun to watch.

I agree, Brian.
The date hasn't been totally nailed down yet. It will move, more than likely via Main Street, to the tracks at Andersen Windows. From there, I've been told David is working on a deal with a group from Texas to buy the train and use it for luxury dining on the rails that will run in the south. I'll have more on this in the near future.

Main Street? They will have to swing stoplights out of the way, no? This will be fun to watch...

So how much is the city charging Paradeau for being so accomodating to a private business owner?

They must be taking the cars and engines out by trucks since the downtown tracks were pulled up in summer of 2005 when the city forced abandonment. There is a washout of tracks near where the big boats park. South from there trees have grown through the rails since 1995 when the last steam engine visited. And the rails are the Sunnyside Marina crossing were remove summer of 2011 to lower that hump. I hope I can find out when they move the train so I can get pictures. I live right here in town.
