There has been a delay in the plans to move the Minnesota Zephyr from the tracks alongside the Stillwater Depot Grill, so construction on Main Street is slated to start on Monday.

That means northbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured onto Water Street while crosswalks are constructed at Main and Commercial streets.

The City received word yesterday that the moving of the Minnesota Zephyr has been delayed until at least July 15, Stillwater City Planner Michel Pogge said. Due to this the city will begin work on Main at Commercial streets starting on Monday, June 18.

Utility and Crosswalk Work Will Cause Detour

In order to complete the new crosswalks at Main and Commercial streets, along with connecting the new pedestrian walkway restroom to water and sanitary sewer, northbound traffic on Main Street (Highway 95) will be rerouted on to Water Street.

The detour will begin shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, June 11.

Work on the crosswalks will be done in two phases starting on the east side then moving to the west side. Depending on weather the work should take about four weeks to complete, Pogge said.

When the work moves to the west side of Main Street, access between Main and Commercial streets will be closed.

Notice of this closure will be sent out approximately one week before it occurs.

Parking Restrictions

While the detour is in effect on Main Street, no parking signs will be posted in the following locations:

  • On Main St between Myrtle St to 150 feet north of Commercial
  • On Water St between Myrtle Street and Mulberry St.
  • On Myrtle St between Main St and Water St.
  • On Mulberry St between Main St and Water St.
