Sen. Karin Housley will serve on the legislative commission overseeing the construction of the new Vikings stadium.

Housley, who is in her first term in the Minnesota State Senate, has been appointed to the newly-created Legislative Commission on Minnesota Sports Facilities.

The commission was established as a part of the legislative stadium agreement reached at the Capitol last year.

According to Minnesota Statutes, the commission reviews "the overall work and role” of the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, which manages the state’s stadium operations, and provides “financial oversight of the authority."

“The Legislative Commission on Minnesota Sports Facilities provides additional oversight throughout the stadium-building process,” Housley stated. “It’s important that taxpayers are protected from cost overruns and other unforeseen building expenses. The commission will help assure Minnesotans that the stadium is well-built without wasteful or unnecessary spending.”

Housley is one of twelve legislators from around the state appointed to the commission.
