Stillwater Man Cited for Theft for Allegedly Stealing a TV from Lakeview Hospital
It didn't take police long to identify the 34-year-old Stillwater man who allegedly walked into Lakeview Hospital Sunday night mourning his mother's death and walked out with a television.
Stillwater police have identified the man who reportedly walked in to Lakeview Hospital grieving his mother’s death Sunday night and walked out with a television.
Samuel Wolfgang Hernandez, 34, of Stillwater was cited for misdemeanor theft and reportedly returned the television to Lakeview Hospital.
According to the police report:
An employee at Lakeview Hospital saw the man who allegedly stole the television walking southbound on Greeley Street at Curve Crest Boulevard. Soon after reporting that information to police, officers spoke with an employee at Elk’s who said a man matching the description had come into the bar and asked for a band-aid because he had cut his hand on glass.
The man then reportedly had a beer and told a bar patron that he was on his way to Wal-Mart. Police located the man and identified him as Hernandez.
Hernandez reportedly admitted to taking the television after police told him he was captured stealing it on video surveillance. Hernandez then took police back to his home in the 200 block of Olive Street where he turned over the television.
According to video surveillance:
Hernandez walked into the emergency room entrance of the hospital at about 11:30 p.m. and asked hospital staff if he could come in because his mother died and he needed a place to stay for a while.
Staff members let him in, and according to a police report, the man bought a bottle of soda from the vending area and then sat down to watch television in the lobby of the emergency room.
About 15 minutes later, hospital security had lost sight of the man and then noticed that the 20-inch television from the lobby area was gone.
After looking at surveillance video, hospital staff saw a man leave the hospital through the main entrance carrying the television in his hands.
