Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker Issues Letter to U.S. DOT Secretary in Support of New Stillwater Bridge
In the letter, Walker writes that "Wisconsin fully supports this project and requests your assistance in moving forward."
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker today issued a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood showing support for the proposed new St. Croix River Crossing. In the letter, Walker states the following:
"Wisconsin fully supports this project and requests your assistance in moving forward. I have spoken with Governor Dayton of Minnesota who assured me that he supports the project as well. Both congressional action and the Administration’s support are needed to make the St. Croix River Crossing project a reality. We respectfully request your support of these congressional efforts to address this nationally significant transportation project."
Wisconsin DOT Secretary Mark Gottlieb also wrote to LaHood about the project.

Well at least he did something. Even though it was as generic as can be . Most anyone who reads a paper once a month could have provided the facts he did in that letter. I'm curious as to how he categorizes it as a nationally significant project though. While that may not be the case, it is significant to the area.
How about talking about the regional significance on infrastructure that the project has. Maybe even how it has and will continue to be a drain on taxpayer's dollars the longer a delay is prolonged. When I worked for Mn/DOT, I was in a meeting where a video tour of the proposed bridge was presented two weeks before the initial scheduled letting of the project and it had an estimated cost of around 85 million dollars. What are the projections now 600+ million? How about all of the residual expenses for right a way and other transportation improvements made in anticipation of the project? Many of which are now out dated. Those might have been some relevant things to include in his letter.
Regardless, at least he didn't publicly alienate those who may help. Like he did with the 800 million dollar offer he snubbed this winter. For that he is to be commended.

His writing reads like a comic book, sixth grade level.

It's great to finally see action on this long overdue bridge. It's going to be an asset for Wisconsin communities and will give better access to Minnesota retailers as well as make downtown Stillwater a safer and a better place to visit.
