Okee Dokee Brothers to Perform at Lake Elmo Park Reserve

The performance is part of Explore Your Parks Day, which will feature a number of events.

As part of Washington County’s Explore Your Parks Day, the Grammy-winning music group the Okee Dokee Brothers will perform at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve. The event is set for Saturday, June 1, when it will be free to enter all Washington County parks. There are several events at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve in the works, including outdoor recreation demonstrations, live entertainment, food and more, according to a release from Washington County. Events run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., centered at the beach area. The day kicks off with 5K and 1K fun runs. The 36th annual Rivertown Art Festival will take place in North Lowell Park in Downtown Stillwater on May 18-19 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The event is free to the public and will feature over 100 local vendors and artists.

There will be a concert benefiting Zach Sobiech's Osteosarcoma Research Fund Saturday, May 18 at the Lakefront Park band shell in Hudson. "Rockin' the River for Zach" will feature music by "The New Skinny" and other special guests from 3 - 6 p.m. on Saturday. Wristbands can be purchased for $5 at the park. All proceeds from the event will go to the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund. When he was 14 years old, Sobiech, now 18, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. Given only months to live, Zach turned to music to inspire others and raise awareness. Class of 2012 Stillwater Area High School grad Joey Bush posted a senior project video for Cutaway Productions on YouTube about a year ago, and now it is closing in on 10 million views and more than 4,000 comments.

A 2012 Stillwater Area High School graduate’s final Cutaway Productions project titled, “Our Story in Two Minutes” has has taken on a life of its own. Joey Bush posted the video on YouTube about a year ago, and it is closing in on 10 million views and more than 4,000 comments. Bush set the video to the song “Mind Heist” by Zack Hemsey and gathered photos from all over the Internet to show the story of the world (from a westerners’ vantage point as one commenter points out). Historic Photo Captures Northwest Thresher Staff in Stillwater

The photo, which is framed and matted, was recently listed on eBay.

Stillwater history buffs, get your bid ready.  A classic print of the staff at the then-Advanced Rumley tractor, which would be the home of the Rumley steam thresher production line in Stillwater, is up for bid on eBay. The building opened as the Northwest Thresher Co. in Stillwater, and was acquired by Rumley in 1912.  According to Edward Yost, who put the item up for bid, if bidders would like to look at the listing, they can just punch in the item number 261205220978 in eBay's search area. McCollum to Accept Student Congressional Arts Competition Submissions

The competition, titled "An Artistic Discovery" is open to all high school students in Minnesota's Fourth Congressional District.

U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum's office is accepting submissions for the 2013 Congressional Arts Competition until April 22. The competition is titled "An Artistic Discovery," according to an information page on McCollum's website. From the website: The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 4th District. The over-all winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The Stillwater Public Library Foundation is putting on a kids p(ART)y May 11 celebrating the art of illustration, and supporting children's collections and programs.

The Stillwater Public Library Foundation is putting on a kids p(ART)y next month celebrating the art of illustration. The P(ART)Y at the library is a special children's event (intended for ages 3-12) that gives kids a chance to have fun while learning about the art of illustration.
