Karin Housley to Decide in Early 2014 If She'll Run for Governor

Stillwater's state Senator talked to MinnPost and the St. Paul Pioneer Press about her plans.

State Sen. Karin Housley (R-39), who represents Stillwater, will decide early next year whether to run for governor.

"Running for governor wasn't anywhere in my life plan," she told the St. Paul Pioneer Press, "but the state needs to go in a different direction. We don't have time to wait."

Housley said her husband Phil and four children** "were all on board and supportive" of the idea, according to MinnPost.*

Word of a possible Housley gubernatorial run first appeared at the Politics.mn website early this month.

*The original version of this post said that Housley told MinnPost she would be the first woman to run for Minnesota governor as a Republican. The senator clarified that MinnPost asked her if she thought she would be, and she speculated that she might, but didn't know for sure.

**The original version of this post incorrectly said "four daughters."
