'Not Happy and Will Not Shop': Stillwater Responses to Store Hours on Thanksgiving Day

The sentiment was strong against retail stores being open on Thanksgiving Day ... but someone must like it, right?

Stillwater Patch asked on Facebook if people were happy about some stores being open on Thanksgiving. A sampling of responses (and leave your opinion in comments below):

Alex: As a guy who will be working at Target when they open I am not happy. I will be missing out on my family's tradition of going to the movies that night. Instead, I will be pushing carts for what is expected to be more guests than last year with the new opening time

Jean: My daughter is expected to work two shifts on Thanksgiving. 10pm Wed to 6am Thur and again 7:30 pm -4am Fri. NO, I am NOT PLEASED.

Stephanie: Former retail manager, not happy and will not shop.
Melissa: Ridiculous. The all mighty dollar has become more important than family and tradition. I will not be shopping.
Stephanie: Right on, Melissa! If we were still working together, I think we would have organized a protest!

Kris: I never shop that weekend, so I could say I am protesting but really I hate crowds. One does have to keep in mind that lots of people HAVE to work the holidays from nurses to security guards, so should we protest that as well?

Tania: Kris, I hope you see your statement is an excellent example of a non sequitur. You can not even begin to compare the job of those who devote their lives to saving the lives of others, to those who have the job of pushing merchandise on us. We can protest by staying out of the stores.

Becky: Do we the people value "time off" to spend with loved ones, or do we "have to go shopping" because a store is open ? Retail business - honor families, honor employees, honor time spent home, honor real life over the almighty dollar.

Watchdog: Last I checked we live in a free country. Alex no one is forcing you to work at Target, vote with your feet and work elsewhere and let someone else rake in the holiday pay. Or go to work and join the thousands of doctors, nurses police officers, fire fighters, gas station employees, prison guards, the workers at power company, water treatment plant, and everyone else with a job that can't take Holidays off.
