This Weekend: Music Festivals, Grape Stomping and Oktoberfest Tapping

If you're planning to hang around Stillwater this weekend there's plenty of things to choose from including a bluegrass festival in Lake Elmo, a Hip-Hop and Graffiti festival in Pioneer Park, Lift Bridge's five year anniversary and a grape stomp.

There’s a lot of stuff going on this weekend in the Stillwater area—including two music festivals and the annual Grape Stomp at St. Croix Vineyards.

Here’s a quick rundown of what’s going on this weekend. Look for more information on these events later this week—and as always, if we missed something, add it in the comment section below and we’ll include it in our list.The 12th Annual Washington County Bluegrass Festival is happening from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at Lake Elmo Park Reserve.

This year’s festival will feature four local bluegrass bands. Located within the 2,200-acre Lake Elmo Park Reserve, the venue provides a naturally peaceful outdoor setting perfect for large groups and families. Free with valid vehicle permit ($5/day or $25 annual).

  • 3 p.m. The Cactus Blossoms
  • 4 p.m. Boys 'N the Barrels
  • 5 p.m. Roe Family Singers
  • 6 p.m. Kind Country

If hip-hop and graffiti art is more your speed, head over to Pioneer Park for the second annual Paint on the Water Hip Hop Festival.

This event is from noon-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7 at Pioneer Park and brings a look into the diverse culture of Hip-Hop to the St. Croix Valley through an educational process that includes aerosol art, B-Boy-dancing, B-Girl dancing, MCs and  DJs.

The Paint on the Water Hip Hop Festival is free.

The 11th Annual Grape Stomp is going down over at Saint Croix Vineyards from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 7-8).

The grape stomp is a free, family-friendly event where you, or your kids, can take a turn stomping grapes the old-fashioned way.

Prizes will be awarded to those with the best grape-stomping style (as determined by audience applause). Grape stomping competitions for both kids and adults will be held at approximately 1, 3, and 5 p.m. each day.

A drawing will be held to determine who will compete in the competitions, so make sure to enter your name in the drawing when you arrive.

Anyone can try stomping the grapes for free between the competitions Vineyard/winery tours will happen at about noon, 2, and 4 p.m. each day.

Live classic rock, soul and blues music will be performed each day from noon to 5 p.m. Wine sampling is happening in the tasting room from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. in our tasting room.

Lift Bridge Brewing Co. will be celebrating their five-year anniversary with the Pickin’ and Grinnin’ event at the brewery from 1-9 p.m. Saturday.

An after party at Smalley’s Caribbean BBQ begins at 10 p.m. and will feature a Kill Devil Firkin, described as: Chesty Devil Chestnut Hill Brown Ale sinfully aged with Kill Devil infused Pimento Wood, Jamaican Allspice, and Whole Cinnamon. Naturally fermented in firkin and served by gravity.
