Last night, Cameron Ulrich passed away after his courageous battle with a complex congenital heart defect.
Cameron, 7, of Oak Park Heights, bravely survived many operations, always managing with a smile.
“Cameron passed away about an hour and a half ago,” his family wrote on the Cameron Ulrich CaringBridge site Wednesday night. “Kari was able to be with him along with many of the staff that we have gotten to know over the past 10 months. We appreciate all the prayers and support.”
Cameron was born on June 15, 2006 with a condition called "situs invertus" where the abdominal organs in the body were flipped backward (stuff from the right on the left and left on the right), according to the CaringBridge site. Also, Cameron had both arteries leading out of the heart on the right chamber instead of one out of each chamber.
Before his heart surgery in May, Cameron was on an ECMO machine (which acts as a lung and heart) for nearly 200 days.
This post will be updated with funeral arrangements when it is made available.
