Historical Mystery: Do You Know About the 'St. Croix Valley Veterans Association'?

Although we have detailed histories of several Stillwater veteran's groups, this is the first reference to a "St. Croix Valley Veterans Association" we have came across. Who are the people in this photograph? Were any of them from Stillwa

This photograph is something of a mystery for us at the historical society.

It was donated by Mary Bakeman along with more than 100 reels of microfilm. The photograph depicts a group of men posing infront of a building.

Looking closely, you can read a banner that says, "Headquarters St. Croix Valley Veterans Association."

Although the photo came to us undated, we were able to determine it was either taken on June 13 or 14 in the summer of 1907. We also were able to determine that this building once stood in Prescott, Wisconsin. However, this is where the trail runs cold.

Although we have detailed histories of several Stillwater veteran's groups, this is the first reference to a "St. Croix Valley Veterans Association" we have came across.

Who are these people in the photograph? Did the Association include Minnesotan veterans? Were any of them from Stillwater?

One of the most exciting elements of studying history is unearthing a good mystery. We, of course, will continue to investigate this curious organization.
