Stillwater Easter Egg Hunt Canceled Due to Snow; Lake Elmo Hunt Still On

This is only the second time in the 18-year history of the Knights of Columbus sponsored Stillwater Easter Egg Hunt at Washington Square Park.

There won't be an Easter Egg Hunt in Stillwater this year.

Last week, Dan Eder told Stillwater Patch the Knights of Columbus Easter Egg Hunt at Washington Square Park was canceled.

“We were scrambling, trying to find an indoor venue to host it, but it looks like we have to cancel it due to the mountains of snow and lack of spring wanting to show up,” Dan Eder said.

Stillwater Township has also canceled their Easter Egg Hunt at Otto Berg Park.

"Due to the failure of mother nature to remove the amount of snow on the ground, Stillwater Township unfortunately will need to cancel this years Easter Egg Hunt as a result of the current weather conditions," an update on the Stillwater Township website reads. "Weather permitting, Stillwater Township fully expects Peter Rabbit to make a return next year."

But there will be a hunt at Lion's Park in Lake Elmo from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.

"We are holding the annual Easter Hunt and Coloring again this year. If the weather is not suitable for the hunt, a back-up plan has been arranged and will take place at the same time and date.
As always, the hunters gather in the playground area of Lion's park and when the Noon siren goes off at the Fire hall, the kids scramble to find eggs with candy and surprises. Then after, kids go into the fire hall where they are given hard boiledeggs to color/dye and take home.  The Easter Bunny will also be in attendance."

Dan and Marlow Eder have organized the Washington Square Park event for the past 14 years with the help of family members, Knights of Columbus volunteers and local businesses.

Traditionally, between 600-800 kids participate in the Easter Egg Hunt, where they gather 35,000 pieces of candy and search for 4,500 prizes in eggs.

The Easter Egg Hunt has been held at Washington Square Park for 18 of the last 18 years, Eder said. The one time it was relocated, during the Blizzard of 2005, the hunt happened inside of the KC Hall.

“It’s unfortunate,” Eder said. “We tried, but what are you going to do when you get that once in decade Easter snow storm.”
