The newspaper reported that Stillwater City Council Member Mike Polehna and others are trying to see that the older name doesn't disappear with Dave Eckberg, whose trial on festival-related felony charges is set to start next month.
"Polehna said Tuesday that he is continuing to work behind the scenes to help arrange a lease of the name Lumberjack Days from the nonprofit Lumberjack Days Festival Association, which has had a service mark on the name since 1996.
"Chuck Dougherty, the owner of the Water Street Inn in downtown Stillwater and a member of the festival association, said he and other board members are working with The Locals 'to try to transfer the name to their organization.' He added that "there is a willingness to make something happen."
