Today we stopped into the new Great Harvest Bread Company store in Stillwater to check it out. We were greeted with a smile, friendly chit-chat from the counter person and a huge slice of fresh-from-the-oven white bread (upon which we slathered butter). Normally, not a huge fan of white bread - this was totally dense and rivaled the best white bread that my mom and grandmothers ever pulled from their ovens. We're sold (even though we went home with a loaf of their signature honey wheat). So, I guess it's not quite time to give up on gluten (as both bread and beer would be affected by the decision). FYI - Wednesday is the ONE day a week they make their gluten-free loaf. But they said, come early - or call to reserve a loaf. The sandwiches (which we didn't grab this time) looked good at a reasonable $6.50 (average). They also featured locally roasted (thank you) River Moon Coffees. http://www.greatharvestwoodbury.com/ (They own two storefronts - Woodbury and Stillwater - each touting their own unique breads - other than the chain-wide honey wheat.)

I just bought and tried the gluten free bread. I love it!! Gluten free eating can be challenging and is a slow learning process when trying to replace wheat. Bread is usually boring, dry, and not very enjoyable. This bread is excellent! It is flavorful and has a nice whole-grain texture. I was once again reminded that the bread is gluten "friendly", not guaranteed gluten free, as there is a chance of cross contamination. If you have Celiac, you know what I mean. I appreciate that they make the effort to let everyone know the difference and I will report back if I do have a reaction. Thanks so much for making this bread available!!
