Faces of South Sudan Photography Exhibit Opening

An exhibition of photographs by Debra Dawson will be on view until December 22. Join us for the opening reception, meet the artist and hear her stories first hand. In 2007, Deb Dawson traveled to Kenya and Sudan to make a documentary about a Lost Boy of the Sudan and his desire to help the orphans in the Sudan. In the village of Duk Payuel, the group was welcomed with song, hand shaking, back slapping and prayer. Deb had brought her camera to document her travels, and the villagers allowed her to photograph them. Return trips to the Sudan and partnerships with groups like H2O for Life – Water for South Sudan at Stillwater Junior High School have allowed this traveling exhibit to stay current.“What I encountered through the lens gave me an unexpected view of struggle, joy, despair and dignity.” – Deb Dawson

ArtReach St. Croix worked in conjunction with H2O for Life – Water for South Sudan at Stillwater Junior High School to bring this exhibition to the St. Croix Galleries. Exhibitions at ArtReach are supported by the Stillwater Area Foundation.
