At this month's Writers on Writing, Julie Schumacher—author of The Body is Water, The Unbearable Book Club for Unsinkable Girls, Black Box and other works—will discuss writing, editing and publishing.
Schumacher, a faculty member in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Minnesota, casts a wide net with her writing and has penned short stories, novels, articles and young adult literature. Her writing explores the areas of family relationships, adolescence, depression and more. Her first novel, The Body is Water, was an ALA Notable Book of the Year and a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award and The Minnesota Book Award. Booklist described her writing as "Quirky ... vividly original ... marvelously poignant ... painfully funny."
The goal of Writers on Writing is to bring authors into the community to talk about writing, publishing and the writing life.
The event will include the presentation, question and answer session, book signing and the opportunity to mingle with other writers, artists and book lovers. All are invited. Writers on Writing is sponsored by Valley Bookseller of Stillwater and supported through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.
