Kids & Art: Did Art Classes Even Figure in Your School Year Planning?

OK. The kids are back and school and you've been making plans for what after-school activities they will do in the coming weeks. Did art even figure in your thinking?

Some weeks ago I wrote several blogs on the benefits of focused art instruction including personal development, stress relief, critical thinking skills and improved academic performance, so you can go back and check that out if you missed it.

This blog post is a reminder that learning  to draw and paint is a learned skill like any other, but can enhance all the decades of your life long after you have stopped playing footabll or volleyball!

We have just returned from a roadtrip to Yeloowstone with another family. I was painting whenever I could, of course, so my friend gave it a go after not doing anything artistic for 40 years! It was really cool to see how quickly she fell in love with it, and how she now wants to create some time to include it in her busy life (she felt VERY chilled doing it, she says!)

"When the artist is alive in any person . . . he becomes an inventive, searching, daring, self-expressing creature. He becomes interesting to other people . .  and he opens ways for better understanding.' (Robert Henri)

So why not make sure you don't overlook this wonderful gift you can give your children?
