Letter to the Editor: Frustrated by Government? Help Define a New Direction on Tuesday, Feb. 7

Lake Elmo resident Tom DeGree, a small business owner and educator who is running for Minnesota State Representative in (currently) District 56A, writes about participating in the upcoming Minnesota caucuses.

In the United States, every citizen has the right and opportunity to participate in shaping our government. Most of us simply cast our votes come November, but we can make our voices heard much earlier in the political process.

Minnesota precinct caucuses will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 7 for both political parties. These neighborhood caucuses are a great way to get involved in the democratic process at its grassroots level. Anyone of legal voting age can participate, and those even younger can attend.

This is your chance to speak up. Or simply listen and learn. Precinct caucuses give each of us a chance to join in the activities that lead to the election of delegates, define platforms, select party leaders and ultimately endorse the candidates that will represent your chosen party in the upcoming elections.

To learn more and find out where your precinct caucus is being held, visit your party's website: http://dfl.org or http://www.mngop.com.

Now more than ever, it is critical that we elect leaders who are qualified and determined to tackle the tough issues and move Minnesota, and our nation, forward.

Sincerely,

Tom DeGree
