The Washington County Attorney’s Office has been granted a 36-hour extension to make a charging decision about a 22-year-old Stillwater man police arrested Monday in connection with a fight at Smalley’s Caribbean Barbeque and Pirate Bar.
"We are concerned with whether or not our victim will survive," Washington County Attorney Pete Orput told the Pioneer Press. "We've been getting updated medical reports, and we want to be certain that we charge the right offense."
The extension gives the county attorney’s office until noon on Friday to make a charging decision in the case.
Police arrested Eric Richards on Monday on suspicion of first-degree assault charges. He remains in the Washington County Jail.
Adam McCloud, 29, of Stillwater, remains in “very critical condition” at Regions Hospital, as a result of the fight. He is in a chemical-induced coma, not able to speak with his family, Larry Odebrecht.
McCloud and Richard didn’t know each other, but were interacting throughout the night, Stillwater Police Sgt. Jeff Stender said. It appears that after McCloud was struck, he fell to the ground and hit his head.
