UPDATED: Shots Fired, Child Killed After Oakdale Shooting

Oakdale police apprehended the suspect who allegedly shot at two different vehicles Monday evening, injuring two people and killing a 9-year-old child.

Oakdale police apprehended the suspect who allegedly shot at two different vehicles Monday evening, injuring two people and killing a 9-year-old boy.

Police received the initial 911 call at 6:10 p.m. The suspect shot at two vehicles off of Seventh Street and Hadley Avenue.  

"This individual for no apparent reason began shooting," said Capt. Jack Kettler of the Oakdale Police Department.

Nhan Tran, 34, of Oakdale, was apprehended at Fourth Street and Hale Avenue and brought into custody at Washington County Jail, according to jail records.

Police also retrieved a handgun and the ammunition in the area where Tran was arrested.

The 9-year-old boy was in a vehicle with a 39-year-old female victim; both were found in the Rainbow Foods parking lot with gunshot wounds. A third victim was found at Sixth Street and Hale Avenue with a gunshot wound to his hand, according to the initial complaint. 

The victims were transported to Regions Hospital. The 9-year-old boy's wounds proved to be fatal. Kettler could not comment on the current condition of the other two victims.

Kettler said the suspect has not been charged yet.

"We will probably be here all night investigating the scene," Kettler said. 

In addition to the Oakdale Police and Fire departments, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Woodbury Police Department and State Patrol responded to the incident.

The offender was apprehended and brought into custody. He was described as in his early 30's, but police could not confirm his exact age. 

A 10-year-old child was killed. The victims were transported to Regions Hospital. Kettler could not comment on the current condition of the other two victims.

Kettler said the suspect has not been charged yet.

"We will probably be here all night investigating the scene," Kettler said. 

In addition to the Oakdale Police and Fire departments, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Woodbury Police Department and State Patrol responded to the incident.

A series of shootings and manhunt has developed in Oakdale tonight after police were called to the area of the Oakdale Rainbow Foods Store. 

According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, police responded to a shooting in the area near Hadley Avenue and Seventh Street in Oakdale shortly after 6 p.m. Monday. 

Police Clips, a Patch collaborator and police monitor posted scanner feeds after the shooting on its site which detailed both police response and an ensuing manhunt in the area.

The Pioneer Press' Ted Vezner is reporting one woman was shot in the back, and a child was shot in the head. 

More information on the shooting will be posted as it becomes available.
