Stillwater Police Rescue Elderly Woman from Structure Fire

The cause of the fire appears to be near the electrical connections of the washer and dryer unit, Stillwater Fire Chief Stu Glaser said. Damage is estimated at $5,000.

A 95-year-old woman was rescued by Stillwater police today after a structure fire broke out around noon in the 2300 block of Boom Road.

The Stillwater Fire Department was called to the report of a washer fire in the 2300 block of Boom Road at about noon, Stillwater Fire Chief Stu Glaser said. When firefighters arrived crews saw smoke and flames from the washer and dryer area near the wall on the first floor.

Two residents along with several pets were home at the time of the fire. The 95-year-old woman was transported to Lakeview Hospital by Mahtomedi EMS for observation, Glaser said. The pets were removed to safety and all other occupants escaped without injury.

Stillwater Fire crews contained the fire to the area of origin and extinguished the fire. The Bayport and Mahtomedi fire departments, along with Stillwater police officers assisted the Stillwater Fire Department on the scene.
