No One Hurt in Friday Morning Fire in Stillwater Home

Fire chief credits working smoke detectors for minimizing property damages and waking homeowners.

A smoke detector alerted sleeping residents that their house was on fire in Stillwater Friday morning, according to Stillwater Fire Chief Stuart Glaser. 

No one was injured in the 6:12 a.m fire in the 900 block of Everett Street N. (A summer Google Street View image of that block is shown above.) In a news release, Glaser put the amount of property damage at $25,000.

The Stillwater Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 6:12am on Friday, December 27 in the 900 block of Everett Street North in the City of Stillwater. Upon arrival fire crews reported a working attic fire with flames showing in the attic space.

Stillwater Fire crews advanced hose lines to the attic and began an interior fire attack. Additional Stillwater crews responded to provide, search and rescue, water supply, ventilation and overhaul. Firefighters made a quick knockdown of the fire and conducted salvage and overhaul to protect the homeowner’s belongings.

The fire was reported by the homeowners who were awakened by their smoke alarm sounding. The cause of the fire appears to be the bathroom exhaust/vent fan located in the bathroom ceiling. The estimated damage to the building and contents is $25,000. No injuries to responders or residents occurred during this event.
