Oak Park Heights Inmate Charged with Assaulting Officers

Convicted murderer Jason Ray Dominguez hit an officer with the part of his left arm that's not missing, the Washington County Attorney's office charged.

A one-armed inmate at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Oak Park Heights assaulted a prison officer with the appendage of his missing arm, then continued to kick, bite and spit at officers, according to criminal charges against Jason Ray Dominguez, 28.

In the complaint, prosecutors allege that on Aug. 14, 2013:

Two officers were trying to segregate Dominguez after he was involved in fight with another offender, according to the complaint. Dominguez complied with orders to remove his left-arm prosthesis, his wristwatch and a pen from his pocket.

But once an officer opened the cell door, Dominguez said, "If I am going to the hole, I might as well make it worthwhile," and struck the officer below the nose with his left appendage.

The officers took Dominguez to the ground, where he kicked, bit and spit at them, and struck the second officer. Both officers received treatment at Stillwater Medical Group Clinic for sustained facial trauma, neck strain, multiple superficial abrasions, right eye/orbit injury and a bilateral thumb strain.

Dominguez admitted injuring the officers during an interview by the Office of Special Investigations. He faces two counts of fourth-degree assault on a peace officer.

Dominguez is serving a life sentence without a chance for parole for the 2011 killing of Dustin Joseph Brown of Little Falls, who he met during an earlier stint at the prison.
