Police Arrest Two Stillwater Teens for Burglary

Stillwater police arrested two men on suspicion of third-degree burglary last night after a resident reportedly saw the men entered a garage in the 700 block of West Oak Street.

James Jonathan Cody Hanson and David Joseph Kammerer Jr., both 18 of Stillwater, are being held in pending burglary charges, Stillwater Police Sgt. Jeff Stender said Saturday afternoon.

Police made the arrests after a resident of the 700 block West Oak Street saw the individuals go into a neighbor’s garage, Stender said.

“At this point it is too early to say for sure, but I do not believe they are involved in the residential burglaries,” Stender said. “They most likely have been involved in the thefts from motor vehicles and some garage burglaries.”

The case is still under investigation.

The Stillwater Police Department is investigating a rash of of homes that are occupied.

The burglaries are occurring between 3-6 a.m., with a few happening as early as midnight, Stillwater Police Sgt. Jeff Stender said. The suspects are entering through open doors and windows and taking purses, wallets, and in some cases, small electronics.

Along with the burglaries, police have also been called to several instances of theft from unlocked motor vehicles, Stender said. Police believe the thefts from vehicles may be crimes committed by the same suspects.

In several instances, suspects have been seen by neighbors, but not reported until after the fact, Stender said. The suspects have been described as two white makes between the ages of 14-20, with “small builds” and dark hair.

Stillwater police are urging residents to make sure doors are closed and locked and windows are secured. Police also recommend that items such as purses and wallets not be left in view of doors and windows.

If anyone sees anything suspicious, they are asked to call 911 immediately.
