The standoff ended peacefully, and response by law enforcement limited the danger to a Lake Elmo neighborhood Wednesday night.

Multiple law enforcement agencies and first responders were called to a home in the 5900 block of Highlands Trail of Lake Elmo last night after a woman took refuge in her home with a shotgun.

Minnesota State Patrol, Washington County Deputies, Lake Elmo and Oakdale Police worked together to subdue the woman, who officers reported was hallucinating and "psychotic," according to Oakdale Police Information Officer Michelle Stark.

The incident started between 6 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The 56-year-old woman was taken into custody by Washington County law enforcement around 8 p.m. She will appear on charges today in district court.
