The man who assaulted a Washington County Sheriff's Deputy last night is still on the loose.

Police worked into the early hours of Friday morning searching the area of St. Croix Trail and 107th Street in Stillwater Township for a man who kicked and punched a Washington County Sheriff Deputy last night during a traffic stop.

UPDATE: As of 1 a.m., officers are still out searching for the man. One K9 just recently just picked up a good track that brought officers north, according to Twin Cities Incident Page. Squads are checking numerous unsecured areas at this time.

Starting around 11 p.m. Thursday, several K-9 units, a state patrol helicopter and officers from throughout the area began searching Stillwater Township for a suspect who assaulted a deputy during a traffic stop in the area of St. Croix Trail and 107th Street, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

The deputy is doing fine, according to the sheriff’s office.

The search is currently taking place in about a 2-mile area around St. Croix Trail and 107th Street.

Authorities are looking for a white male, who is about 5’11 tall, weighs about 150 pounds, has brown hair and was wearing a heavy black coat.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man may not be wearing shoes. He is believed to be unarmed.

The Sheriff’s Office initiated a Code Red alert to those who live in the area. Authorities are urging residents to stay inside because of the ongoing K-9 search.

The warning to stay inside is because dogs are actively involved in the search, according to the sheriff's office. Not because the suspect is believed to be a danger to the public.

According to Twin Cities Incident Page, the suspect is wanted for numerous burglaries out of the Forest Lake area and most recently one that just occurred in Scandia.

Police continue the search because the man assaulted a deputy.
