Stillwater House Fire "Likely" Caused By Lighter

A fire in an upstairs bedroom of a Stillwater Home was quickly put out after it allegedly started with a lighter.

At 6:30 p.m., a fire started in the upstairs bedroom of a house in the 900 block of William Street North.

According to Stillwater Deputy Fire Chief Tom Ballis, the fire was put out at 6:41 p.m. by the fire department.

The fire was “likely started by a lighter,” Ballis said.

All five opponents of the house escaped safely, according to the report.

The fire was contained in the upstairs bedroom, although there is extensive smoke damage throughout the upper floor, the report stated.

The smoke alarms were in working order and alerted the family of the fire, Ballis said.
