Stillwater Man Facing Multiple Charges After Alleged Domestic Assault

Upon his arrest, Colin Emmet Orcutt denied putting his hands on the woman and stated he pushed her only after she slapped him in the face.

A 22-year-old Stillwater man is scheduled to appear in Washington County District Court on Jan. 19 to face a series of charges surrounding an alleged domestic assault in Lakeland.

Colin Emmet Orcutt was arrested on Nov. 19 and charged with felony domestic assault by strangulation, gross misdemeanor domestic assault with a prior offense and gross misdemeanor interference with a 911 call

According to Washington County warrant complaint filed on Nov. 22:

Orcutt and his then girlfriend got into a verbal argument on Nov. 18, which continued into the early morning hours of Nov. 19.  

At one point during the argument Orcutt began screaming at the woman in very close proximity to her face, the complaint states. When she grabbed the phone and told Orcutt she was planning to call police, he allegedly kicked the phone out of her hands and held her down on a nearby couch and continued yelling at her.

According to the woman's post-incident statement to Washington County Sheriff's deputies, Orcutt then put both hands around her neck and used both thumbs to press on her esophagus. The woman told deputies she could not breathe while Orcutt was choking her. 

As she continued to fight, Orcutt allegedly stopped choking her, got off her and left the residence. 

According to the complaint, Orcutt was arrested without incident at his father's house in the 17000 block of Rivard Road North in Stillwater Township. 

Upon his arrest, Orcutt allegedly denied putting his hands on the woman and stated he pushed her only after she slapped him in the face.

According to court records, Orcutt was convicted of felony terroristic threats in July 2009.
