Stillwater Police: Drunk Punches, a Late Night 'Bear' Sighting

Stillwater Police Blotter Sept. 23-25

The following police blotter is compiled from Stillwater police reports and subsequent interviews with the Stillwater Police Department.

Friday, Sept. 23:

  • The heating and air conditioning system were found missing in July from a foreclosed home. The value of the system is $2,300.
  • A laptop computer was taken from a residence in the 100 block of Fourth Street North. The value of the computer is $550.

  • An anonymous caller reported seeing a bear in the parking lot at 3:30 a.m. The sighting was not confirmed by police.
  • A 27-year-old Brooklyn Park man was seen on the security camera video taking a $600 cell phone from Radio Shack in Stillwater while the woman he was with was buying a phone. Officers later found the man at the woman’s apartment with the stolen phone. The man was arrested for gross misdemeanor theft.
  • A 40-year-old Stillwater man allegedly urinated on a truck and then punched a bartender twice at . According to police, the man's blood alcohol content was tested to be .45. He was taken to .

Sunday, Sept. 25

  • A 28-year-old man was charged with misdemeanor theft and criminal damage to property after he allegedly got upset with a woman because she would not give her address to him. The man was at her house earlier in the evening and wanted to get his vodka and get his truck from her house. The man took her cell phone in hopes of getting her address from her phone. When the man did not find her address, he threw her phone on a roof.

  • The Stillwater Police Department would like to remind residents they can ask solicitors for their permit at any time. If the solicitor refuses to show permit or does not have one, please call the Stillwater Police Department immediately.   • In Minnesota Department of Corrections news, DOC employee Lois Freiermuth is the Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health’s Counselor of the Year. Freiermuth is a corrections program therapist at Lino Lakes prison.
  • In Minnesota Department of Public Safety news, Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Week was Sept. 18–24. The DPS is emphasizing the life-saving importance of correct child safety restraint and booster seat use to keep children safe while riding in a vehicle. In Minnesota, three out of four child restraints are used incorrectly. Children are riding in the wrong restraint or it is not properly secured. According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety: Office of Traffic Safety, only 53 percent of child crash victims were properly secured between 2006 and 2010.
  • The County Public Health Department and the Sheriff’s Office recently joined Code RED. Code RED is a web based system which will allow the county to reach citizens by phone and text messaging. To sign up for Code Red, click here.

Yang has a Washington County Felony warrant for Violation of a Harassment Restraining Order. Yang has been known to the Sheriff’s Department for felony harassment restraining order violations, motor vehicle tax evasion and driving with a suspend license. The preceding items were taken from theStillwater and Oak Park Heights police departments. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Incidents are listed in the order in which they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they occurred.
