Stillwater Police To Use Yellow Slips When Potential 'Crimes Of Opportunity' Are Observed

The notices will be used by officers when they observe an open garage, open door or unsecured property (bikes) left in yards.

Stillwater Police are getting proactive when it comes to squashing out crimes of opportunity.

The department has implemented a new crime prevention program, called "Crime Opportunity Alert,” in which officers will leave residents yellow notices on doors and homes when police see open doors, bikes left outside and other unsecured property that is ripe for the taking.

These notices will be used by patrol, community service officers and reserves when they have identified a condition, which was an opportunity for criminal activity.  Examples of a  “condition” may include an open garage,  open door, or unsecured property (bikes) left in yards.
