Hilton Trail Renumbered to Head Off Confusion Before Construction Starts in 2013

The Washington County Public Works Department renumbered Hilton Trail from CSAH 36 to CSAH 29 for its entire length from Highway 36 in Pine Springs to CSAH 12 (Stillwater Road) in Mahtomedi.

In an attempt to head off confusion this year when MnDOT constructs a grade-separated interchange at Hilton Trail (formerly CSAH 36) and Highway 36 in Pine Springs, the county roadway has been given a new number.

The reconfiguration of roadways in this area—as part of the upcoming interchange project—has the potential to create increased confusion and potential driver mistakes if Hilton Trail were to remain numbered as CSAH 36, because it intersects with state highway 36.

So on Jan. 1, that all changed—and the Washington County Public Works Department renumbered Hilton Trail from CSAH 36 to CSAH 29 for its entire length from Highway 36 in Pine Springs to CSAH 12 (Stillwater Road) in Mahtomedi.

New highway signs have been erected establishing Hilton Trail as CSAH 29. In keeping with past practice, CSAH 36 signs will remain in place for about one year, with a plaque reading “OLD” mounted above them, to assist drivers with the transition to the new highway number.

Initially, only the signs on Hilton Trail and on CSAH 12 will be modified. All signs within MnDOT right-of-way will be replaced as part of the interchange project in 2013.
