Is 'Log Jam' Vulgar? City of Stillwater Wants New Festival Name

Some see sexual connotations in the new summer festival name, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

The City of Stillwater has asked The Locals, organizers of a new city-sanctioned summer event, to choose a different festival name because of citizen complaints that "Stillwater Log Jam" invites sexual interpretations.

The essence of The Locals' response, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press: Sometimes, a "Log Jam" is just a log jam.

"Are we 14-year-old boys? Seriously," organizer Cassie McLemore told the newspaper. She said they don't plan to switch from "Stillwater Log Jam."

"We don't want to be the laughingstock of the nation" because of a "vulgar reference," Mayor Ken Harycki told the Pioneer Press.

Commenters at Stillwater Patch had already been busy batting around possible alternative interpretations of "Log Jam."  News of the official objection to the festival name started a new round of debate on the Stillwater Patch Facebook page—most of it suggesting the fuss is much ado about nothing.

Organizers reviving Stillwater's summer festival recently gave up on getting back the "Lumberjack Days" name from organizers. The man who last ran Lumberjack Days is set to go on trial on theft charges related to the festival next month.
