Look for a New National Guard Armory and Stillwater Fire Station

New facility will allow fire crews to reach anyplace in Stillwater within six minutes, Fire Chief Stuart Glaser told the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

President Obama has signed off and within a few years, Stillwater should have a new fire station alongside a new National Guard armory.

U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum (DFL-MN) announced the Stillwater/Minnesota National Guard Joint Readiness Center in Stillwater on Wednesday.

The new facilities will be built on 18 city-owned acres northwest of County Road 12 and Boutwell Road, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported. That location will allow fire crews to reach any part of Stillwater within six minutes.

The new fire station and armory will each replace existing facilities downtown, with the Stillwater Police Department moving into the fire department's current space at City Hall.

The armory will be completed by November 2015. As for the new fire station, a date isn't certain but Fire Chief Stuart Glaser told the Pioneer Press: "The sooner, the better. Then we'll all be happy. ... New armory. New fire station. New bridge. 2016 is going to be a big year. You'd better stick around."
