The first live school board meeting will be online at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday, May 9).

The goal of streaming the meetings online is to improve communication and increase transparency and accountability, according to the school district. “School board members are committed to engaging our community in important discussions about our schools and the learning experiences of our students,” Board Chair Kathy Buchholz said. “Web-streaming our meetings is an important way for us to make our meetings more accessible, and hopefully, increase awareness of the great things happening for our students now and our exciting plans for the future.”

The venture is a partnership with the city of Stillwater to provide this new web-streaming service. By sharing resources, both the district and the city were able to implement the service at half the cost to each organization.

To provide the service, the city and school district split the up-front, one-time cost of about $2,600. Each entity will pay about $4,300 annually for the service.

“This is a great example of how we can team with government organizations to increase service and reduce costs for everyone,” Stillwater Area Schools Superintendent Corey Lunn said. “We’re excited to expand our partnership with the city of Stillwater and provide this important communication tool to all of our residents.”
