Stillwater City Council Shores Up Reqest for Proposal to Replace Lumberjack Days
The Stillwater City Council on Tuesday night took the first steps in bringing a replacement to Lumberjack Days back to downtown Stillwater next summer.
The Stillwater City Council has taken the first steps to bringing a community festival back to downtown Stillwater next summer.
The council on Tuesday night gave their final feedback on a draft requesting proposals for a new community event in Stillwater that spells out what organizers of a summer festival would need to provide.
The city of Stillwater is requesting qualified and experienced organizations to submit proposals to produce a new summertime community festival beginning in 2014. The deadline for proposals will be Sept. 12.
The geographic focus for drawing festival-goers should focus on Stillwater, and the St. Croix River Valley, but not ignore the Twin Cities area as a region.
Organizers should also develop and present a theme and festival name in the proposal that complements Stillwater's historic fabric, lumbering traditions and river setting, while involving and benefiting the community including local non-profit and volunteer organizations.
"We need to get this back and let's get it going," Ward 4 Council Member Mike Polehna said. "This is the first step."
