Stillwater Area Public Schools: No Classes Tuesday

It's the second day in a row for District 834 schools. Monday evening activities are also canceled.

There will be no classes Tuesday, Jan. 28 in the Stillwater Area Public Schools, the district announced Monday afternoon:

"All evening activities are canceled for Monday, Jan. 27 and all Stillwater Area Public Schools will be closed again on Tuesday, Jan. 28 due to the extremely cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills. All of our schools will be closed and daytime activities canceled including Adventure Club and early childhood programs. As temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day, some of our after school and evening events and activities may be held. Watch this website on Tuesday for updated information.

"We have been faced with the difficult decision to close schools many times this month and are doing our best to balance our desire to keep students in school with the safety concerns raised by the dangerous cold. Ultimately, the decision has been made for the safety of our students - many of whom must wait for buses in unprotected and isolated areas while others walk to school.

"The events of this winter are unprecedented as we now face the very real possibility of having to add days to the school calendar to make up for the cancellations of school. The school board is actively engaged in conversations regarding the make-up of these days and more information will be shared with you in the coming days as a decision is made.
