Stonebridge Students Collect $700 in Three Days for Valley Outreach

In just three days students at Stonebridge Elementary School collected more than $700 and donated it to Valley Outreach.

That donation will generate 4,300 pounds of food to feed 42 families or 110 people for an entire month.

Stonebridge students gave money from their piggy banks and allowance, Joyce Enright, of the Stonebridge PTA said. "Their intentions are just so sweet."

The message to the children was that it doesn’t have to be a big dollar amount to have a big impact. But they also learned how far monetary donations go when given to a food shelf.

“One can of soup is one can of soup when it is bought at Cub and donated to Valley Outreach,” Christine Tubbs, the executive director of Valley Outreach said. “But $1 is one-and-a-half cases of soup when bought at the food bank.”

Food donations are always appreciated, Tubbs said, but cash donations go 10 times further as a result of food shelves buying in bulk from food banks.
