Frigid Weather Ensures Lake Elmo Lions Annual Ice Fishing Contest

The Lake Elmo Lions ice fishing contest is set for Sunday, Feb. 3 from 1–3 p.m. on Lake Jane.

Old Man Winter has brought Minnesotans plenty of frigid weather lately, and locally, that will allow the Lake Elmo Lions to host their annual ice fishing contest on Lake Jane.

“Last year the Lions Club had to cancel the contest due to thin ice,” Diane Knoll of the Lions Club said. “But now, with two weeks to spare, we can safely announce this year's contest thanks to this week's frigid temps.”

The ice fishing contest is set for 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, on Lake Jane (located north of Highway 5 on Jamaca Avenue).

A ticket will get people on the ice and give them a chance to win “a prize a minute,” as well as the grand prize drawing of $1,000 cash. Cash prizes will also be given for the three largest fish caught during contest hours.

Event co-chair Dave Leikam encourages everyone to purchase tickets to ensure the Lake Elmo Lions Club’s continued support to deserving local programs.
