Travel Along Highway 36 is Going to Get Even Messier Starting Tuesday

By this afternoon, travel on Highway 36 is going to get messy as MnDOT moves into a new phase of construction of the St. Croix River Crossing Project.

A traffic switch over will happen today, meaning that eastbound traffic on Highway 36 will cross over west of Osgood Avenue and use a single lane of westbound Highway 36.

This head-to-head traffic flow will continue on Highway 36 through the end of September.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place at the junction of Highways 36 and 95, impacting traffic traveling southbound on Highway 95 and eastbound on Hwy 36 to northbound Highway 95.

Highway 95 traffic will use a single lane in each direction from Point Road to Lookout Trail from mid-July through the end of the 2013 construction season while crews reconstruct the Highway 36 eastbound lanes, as well as, ramps to and from Highway 95.

MnDOT asks motorists to “please be patient and plan for delays.”

Highway 36 ramps to and from Beach Road will remain open for the time being; however, Beach Road is anticipated to close by late-July or early-August.

Beach Road Bridge Closure Public Meeting

Prior to the Beach Road Bridge closing, MnDOT will hold a public meeting about the upcoming closure on Monday, July 22 from 5:30-7 p.m. at Oak Park Heights City Hall.

Jon Chiglo, St. Croix Crossing project manager, will give a brief presentation about the closure at 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Project staff will be available to discuss the bridge closure and answer questions throughout the meeting.

The bridge will close in early August, weather permitting, allowing crews to construct the new Beach Road bridge. With the temporary bridge closure, permanent closures will occur at the entrance ramp from Beach Road to westbound Highway 36 and the exit ramp from eastbound Highway 36 to Beach Road.

• Access to southbound Highway 95 will be available from eastbound Highway 36 by going south on Highway 5 and then east on County Road 14. (see map)
• Access to westbound Highway 36 will be available from northbound Highway 95 by going west on 56th Street N., south on Stagecoach Trail, west on County Road 14 and then north on Highway 5. (see map
• New Highway 95 ramps to/from Highway 36 are anticipated to be open at the end of September 2013.
• The new Beach Road bridge will open by the end of 2013.

The Minnesota approach project will be complete by fall 2014 and the new St. Croix Crossing bridge will be complete in fall 2016.
