Our Community Kitchen Expands to First Presbyterian Church in Stillwater

Our Community Kitchen will be serving healthy breakfasts to the community in the dining room at the First Presbyterian Church beginning Wednesday, June 12 for a six-week trial period.

Our Community Kitchen is expanding.

What began at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension more than two-and-half years ago as a place where “everyone is welcome and everyone is fed” will expand its operation by serving healthy breakfasts to the community in the dining room at the First Presbyterian Church beginning Wednesday, June 12.

Breakfast will be served from 8-10 a.m. for a six-week trial period.

There is no cost for the breakfasts served at Our Community Kitchen. Those that enjoy a healthy breakfast are asked to make a voluntary $5 donation—and if they can afford more—pay a little extra for others less fortunate in the community.

By offering a healthy variety of chemical-free, locally produced fresh fruits and vegetables, bringing volunteers into the kitchen, introducing people to nutritious foods, teaching children and adults how to prepare healthy menus, Our Community Kitchen strives to create a community of friends that make sure no one in our neighborhood goes hungry.

The Rev. Cader Howard, pastor at the First Presbyterian Church, enthusiastically supports the work of the Our Community Kitchen and has had an out-pouring of volunteer backing from church members.

“We hope all our neighbors—moms and dads, tots and teens, retirees and seniors, people on their way to work, and anyone in need of a nutritious meal and nurturing conversation—will make Our Community Kitchen at the First Presbyterian Church a regular Wednesday morning gathering spot,” Rev. Howard said.

Our Community Kitchen will continue to serve breakfasts their mix of 50 to 75 people every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8-10 a.m. at Episcopal Church of the Ascension.
