Volunteers Sought to Help Clean Up St. Croix River near Brown's Creek Trail

Volunteers are invited to spend a morning on the St. Croix River, clearing litter and invasive species in preparation for the new Brown's Creek Trail in downtown Stillwater.

The volunteer event will is set for Saturday, July 27 from 8:45 to 11:30 a.m. The cleanup effort will be followed by a complimentary lunch.

Conservation Corps Minnesota youth crews will lead the cleanup project on the future Browns Creek Trail starting at the Depot on the north end of Main Street. The trail follows the former Minnesota Zephyr rail line and, when it is complete, will link to the Gateway Trail that runs to Saint Paul.

“This trail will be an important link between downtown Stillwater and the Gateway Trail and connect more people to the river,” Stillwater Mayor Ken Harycki said. “The City greatly appreciates the service of volunteers and young people in the Conservation Corps who are improving the public’s access to outdoor recreation in the St. Croix Valley.”

The Conservation Corps of Minnesota has worked on dozens of conservation projects in the Stillwater area over the past few years.

All ages are welcome. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and protective clothing.

The Conservation Corps will provide work gloves, eyewear and hand tools. Free parking is available in a public lot at the intersection of Main Street and Laurel Street.
